China is a key player in global apparel sourcing, attributed to lower labor costs and various advantages such as reduced political and economic risks, superior infrastructure, and a skilled workforce. The growing domestic demand further enhances its appeal, shifting the focus from merely sourcing to also selling in China. However, apparel companies and logistics providers face challenges, including diverse transportation systems, regulatory hurdles, fragmented distribution networks, and limited technological adoption in logistics. While many publications address "China Sourcing," they often lack specificity regarding the apparel sector, focusing instead on industries like automotive and electronics. This survey delves into the current trends in the apparel industry through extensive interviews with approximately 50 professionals from 35 firms, including apparel companies, buying agents, manufacturers, logistics providers, banks, and consulting firms. It serves as a comprehensive guide to apparel sourcing and distribution in China, detailing the entire supply chain processes between Europe and China and the key players involved. The paper provides an overview of the apparel supply chain and discusses three critical areas: transport chain, financial performance, and distribution logistics, offering insights into relevant processes, critical issues, and practical recommendations for industry stakeholders.
