Once used for traditional mass production, forming technology has evolved into a high-tech science focusing on new materials, integrated process chains, and flexible product design. This evolution has raised new questions regarding accuracy requirements that exceed those of classic precision or near-net-shape manufacturing. Market trends in lightweight construction and significantly shorter development cycles, coupled with the continuous pressure for lower prices, necessitate higher accuracy in both the design and practical implementation of product and process properties. Addressing this need requires enhanced interdisciplinary communication. The 10th Saxon Conference on Forming Technology SFU, held on October 14-15, 2003, was combined with the inaugural International Conference on Accuracy in Forming Technology ICAFT, marking a significant step in addressing these evolving challenges. The conference aimed to foster discussions and collaborations that would lead to improved accuracy and efficiency in forming technology, reflecting the industry's shift towards more sophisticated and precise manufacturing processes.
