Interactive Digital Storytelling has emerged as a dynamic research area uniting diverse fields from the arts, humanities, and computer science. It underscores storytelling as a vital method for conveying knowledge and social values throughout human history. This discipline connects current academic pursuits in formalizing computer games with the experience-based design of human-media interaction. In 2000, ZGDV e. V. organized a national workshop in Darmstadt, showcasing the breadth of this emerging field in computer graphics (DISTEL 2000). This was followed by the 1st International Conference on Technologies for Interactive Digital Storytelling and Entertainment (TIDSE 2003) in March 2003, which concentrated on automated storytelling concepts and prototypes, including emotional modeling and user experience. TIDSE 2004 saw a growing community of researchers convening to share findings and visions, reinforcing the establishment of a series of European conferences on the subject. This initiative, alongside the International Conference on Virtual Storytelling (ICVS) held in France in 2001 and 2003, will continue to be nurtured and expanded.
