Más información sobre el libro

This volume celebrates the first decade of Magma, a computer algebra system launched at the First Magma Conference on Computational Algebra in August 1993. It introduces the reader to Magma's role in advanced mathematical research, with each paper exploring how computers can provide insights into specific problems or related groups of problems. The intention is to offer enough detail for readers to understand both the mathematical questions at the core of these issues and how computations are specified in Magma. The hope is that readers will recognize the significant role computational algebra can play in mathematical research. Those not primarily interested in using Magma will still acquire the skills necessary for basic programming, while experienced users can enhance their knowledge of mathematics and advanced computational methods in relevant areas. The core of the volume consists of 14 papers, written by invited authors on designated topics, which were reviewed by referees. While not exhaustive, the topics cover a considerable part of Magma’s algorithmic algebra, including number theory, algebraic geometry, representation theory, computational group theory, and aspects of discrete mathematics and graph theory. The volume includes an outline of the Magma project, summaries of the papers, instructions for reading Magma code, and a basic introduction to the Magma language in an appendix. The editors express gratitude to the
