Más información sobre el libro

The book begins by defining an orderly school: a place that prizes learning and where students feel safe, successful, and known. The authors then make the case for why schools need to be orderly, along with establishing the cost for creating an orderly school and why it is so devastating for students, teachers, and society when schools are not orderly. The authors address common misconceptions about orderly schools--that, for example, making schools orderly will increase suspensions. The book will also address the Power of Prevention, which is always better than cure. They will outline how disruptions can be kept small, but also how to respond productively when larger things go wrong and how educators can socialize behavior change with fewer suspensions. The authors will also address the role of leadership in making schools institutions of teaching and learning in every regard. They'll give leaders tools to build consensus, understanding, and partnership with parents and communities. The authors will argue that without order in schools there will be far fewer people prepared to bring about social change but also fewer doctors, engineers and novelists and fewer happy and successful lives. The book seeks to disrupt the current backlash against order in school before it exacts a massive cost on the lives of citizens who most rely on schools to create access to opportunity and meritocracy.
