Whereas, around 1954, the Danish painter Asger Jorn (1914–1973) worked exclusively with collages, ten years later he made a complete about-face: From 1964 to 1969, he created a series of décollages. For these works, he removed already existing material instead of adding this, removing layers of up to 20 posters at a time from public billboards. With technical finesse and great skill, he arranged various fragments and stabilized the results, over which, in some cases, he then painted or drew.
