Mungaka, a Grassland Bantu language belonging to the Niger-Congo language group, is spoken as a mother tongue by approximately 45,000 people and understood by many more in North-West Cameroon. Georg Tischhauser's Mungaka-German dictionary, created in the 1930s, has been translated and thoroughly revised into English by Johannes Stöckle, with input from a native speaker. This revision takes into account the cultural context and specific entries, illustrated with numerous examples. A grammatical overview by Gudrun Miehe and Johannes Stöckle provides insights into the fundamental grammatical structures of Mungaka, complemented by an English-Mungaka index. The dictionary's release has been positively received, particularly by specialists in Grassfields Bantu languages, who appreciate Stöckle's efforts in making this resource accessible. The original spelling of Mungaka is retained, with a list of equivalent symbols commonly used by linguists. Each entry includes grammatical information, such as category and plural forms for nouns, along with relevant agreements. This dictionary marks the first publication in the 'Archiv afrikanistischer Manuskripte' collection, aimed at reviving 'forgotten' linguistic works. The hope is that this initial release will lead to many more valuable publications in the future.
