Más información sobre el libro
This volume stems from the Second International East/West Database Workshop held from September 25-28, 1994, in Klagenfurt, Austria, continuing a series initiated in Kiev in 1990. The workshop aimed to create a platform for presenting and discussing scientific advancements in advanced databases that enhance the development and utilization of future information systems. It also sought to foster communication between previously isolated research communities, facilitating interactions and collaborations between Eastern and Western researchers. The workshop highlights that not only political borders evolve, leading to new autonomies and collaborative opportunities, but also the boundaries between scientific disciplines, particularly in the rapidly changing field of computer science. The integration of databases and programming languages into object-oriented databases, along with the convergence of database and information retrieval technologies, forms the foundation for modern multimedia information systems. Additionally, the shifting borders among various information systems promote collaboration while allowing for varying degrees of autonomy, with heterogeneous and distributed databases serving as key enabling technologies for these systems.
