This book focuses on the 19th Meeting of the EURO Working Group on Financial Modelling, held in Chania, Crete, Greece, from November 28-30, 1996. Established in September 1986 in Lisbon, the Working Group's primary interest lies in developing financial models to address challenges faced by financial managers. Its objectives include providing an international forum for sharing information and experiences, promoting research in financial modelling (including new techniques, methodologies, and empirical studies), enhancing the connection between financial theory and decision-making practice, and fostering collaboration with universities and financial institutions across Europe. The book aims to present new operational approaches to financial modelling, incorporating theoretical and practical perspectives. It is organized into nine chapters, with the first chapter discussing emerging trends in financial modelling, featuring invited papers by Gil-Aluja and Pardalos. The second chapter addresses high-performance computing in finance, highlighting a European Union project involving several members of the Working Group, including Spronk, Zenios, and Dempster.
