Flora of the Russian Arctic

This volume, the third of six, continues the first comprehensive English-language flora of the Russian Arctic, covering the region from the Norwegian Frontier to the Bering Strait. It includes treatments of nine families: Salicaceae, Betulaceae, Urticaceae, Polygonaceae, Chenopodiaceae, Portulacaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Paeoniaceae, and Ranunculaceae, illustrated with 166 distribution maps. The complete series will encompass approximately 360 genera, 1650 species, and 220 infraspecific taxa. It features keys to all genera and species, along with extensive discussions on the morphology, ecology, and geography of Arctic species. The Flora of the Russian Arctic is essential for botanists and institutions focused on northern plant research. This vast region spans 160 degrees of longitude, representing about half of the circumpolar land mass at Arctic latitudes, and provides a comprehensive resource that overcomes previous linguistic barriers for Western botanists. The work is a translation of the authoritative Arkticheskaya Flora SSSR, prepared by botanists from the Komarov Botanical Institute under the editorship of A. I. Tolmachev and B. A. Yurtsev. The unabridged translation was conducted by G. C. D. Griffiths, with editorial oversight by J. G. Packer, Professor Emeritus of Botany at the University of Alberta. Volumes I and II are also available from the University of Alberta Press.
