This book presents a collection of papers on Agent-Mediated Electronic Commerce, primarily derived from the third workshop held in June 2000 alongside the Autonomous Agents conference. Following two previous workshops in 1998 and 1999, this event continued the dialogue on the challenges and opportunities within Agent-Mediated Electronic Commerce. By concentrating on agent-mediated interactions, experts from various disciplines contributed both theoretical and practical insights into this focused yet expansive field, addressing concerns such as agent architectures, institutionalization, economic theory, modeling, legal frameworks, and policy guidelines. Key topics included electronic negotiation models for agents, formal issues for agents in electronic marketplaces, virtual trading institutions and platforms, and trading strategies for interrelated transactions and auctions. The workshop received 12 submissions, with 7 selected for publication. Although the number of submissions was lower than anticipated for such a significant area, it does not indicate a lack of interest from the agent community in this vital field.
