Computer analysis of images and patterns has a longstanding tradition, originating in the early computer era when electronic brains inspired scientists. The design of vision machines reflects humanity’s aspiration for artificial intelligence. The 2nd CAIP in Wismar in 1987 featured lectures in German, English, and Russian, demonstrating that ideas transcend political boundaries. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, Professors Sommer and Klette proposed a new approach for the CAIP, advocating for its location in Central and Eastern Europe every two years, fostering solidarity with scientific communities transitioning to new economies. This initiative led to successful events in Dresden (1991), Budapest (1993), Prague (1995), Kiel (1997), and Ljubljana (1999). This year, the conference is hosted in Warsaw, featuring three invited lectures and around 90 contributions from over 200 authors across 27 countries. Poland has the largest representation with 60 authors, followed by France (23), England (16), Czech Republic (11), Spain (10), Germany (9), and Belarus (9). Unfortunately, despite free registration and accommodation for authors from former Soviet Union countries, only one paper from Russia was accepted.
