Welcome to MMNS 2003, where the rapid proliferation of multimedia services over IP networks is met with an increasing demand for assured service quality. This necessitates innovative paradigms, models, and architectures for integrated end-to-end service management, moving beyond isolated network element management. Key challenges for the future Internet include providing scalable Quality of Service (QoS) while ensuring fairness and secure, optimal network resource management, applicable to both fixed and wireless networks. This collection features papers presented at the 6th IFIP/IEEE International Conference on Management of Multimedia Networks and Services, held at The Queen’s University of Belfast, Northern Ireland, from September 7–10, 2003. Following successful previous conferences in locations such as Santa Barbara, Chicago, and Paris, MMNS 2003 continues the tradition of single-track presentations that foster intimate discussions and debates. Known for its high-quality contributions from diverse research communities, MMNS has quickly established itself as a premier conference dedicated to the management of multimedia networks and services. The conference aims to unite researchers exploring all aspects of network and service management in relation to broadband networks and multimedia services.
