The Europaische Akademie zur Erforschung von Folgen wissenschaftlich-technischer Entwicklungen Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler GmbH focuses on the scientific study of the consequences of scientific and technological advances on individuals, society, and the environment. Its primary goal is to examine foreseeable mid- and long-term processes influenced by natural sciences, engineering, and medical disciplines. To achieve this, the academy organizes interdisciplinary expert discussions. A significant aspect of its work involves the methodology of Technology Assessment (TA). Over the past two years, the academy has conducted a project funded by the European Commission on Technology Assessment Methods and Impact (TAMI). This initiative aimed to develop a common understanding of TA across Europe, emphasizing that a solid scientific grasp of relevant phenomena is essential for effective TA activities. Additionally, the importance of communication in reaching decision-makers and the public has been highlighted, as this phase has historically received insufficient attention. Consequently, the communication processes between scientific advisers and policymakers require further examination to enhance their effectiveness.
