The 2nd International Workshop on Statistical Methods in Video Processing, SMVP 2004, took place in Prague, Czech Republic, as part of ECCV 2004, the 8th European Conference on Computer Vision. Out of 30 submitted papers, 17 were accepted for presentation after a double-blind review process. The workshop attracted 42 registered participants and focused on the application of advanced statistical methods to computer vision tasks. The one-day scientific program addressed key areas in vision research, including dense reconstruction of 3D scenes, multibody motion segmentation, 3D shape inference, errors-in-variables estimation, probabilistic tracking, information fusion, optical flow computation, learning for nonstationary video data, novelty detection in dynamic backgrounds, background modeling, grouping with feature uncertainty, and crowd segmentation from video. We extend our gratitude to all authors for their submissions, as well as to the program committee members and external reviewers for their valuable recommendations. Special thanks go to Vaclav Hlavac, General Chair of ECCV 2004, and Radim Sara for their efforts in local organization and registration management. We hope these proceedings inspire readers and reflect high scientific quality.
