Más información sobre el libro

Digital cities represent a multidisciplinary area where researchers, designers, and developers of communityware collaborate with social scientists to study the impact of these infrastructures in local contexts. This emerging field gained momentum after the integration of ICT into everyday life, following its initial use in organizations. The 1998 Workshop on Communityware and Social Interaction in Kyoto marked a significant early discussion on this topic, leading to two more workshops in Kyoto and a third in Amsterdam. The current volume is derived from the 3rd Workshop on Digital Cities held on September 18–19, 2003, in Amsterdam, alongside the 1st Communities and Technologies Conference. Most of the papers were presented at this event and have been thoroughly revised. Part I includes case studies of digital cities from Asia, the US, and Europe, which are direct outcomes of the workshops. Collectively, the papers provide a comprehensive overview of the field's state-of-the-art. This volume features contributions from 54 authors across the Americas, Asia, and Europe, showcasing the international scope of research, with participants from countries such as Brazil, the USA, China, Japan, Finland, Germany, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, and the UK.
