The recent enlargement of the European Union is being paralleled by an enlargement of the European Economic Area. This development creates new political, economic, and legal challenges. At the same time it encounters a significant deepening of European Community law in general and the four transnational market freedoms in particular. This volume presents an analysis of this twofold development regarding three types of challenges: to the institutions and the Treaties, to the transnational market freedoms, and to energy and resource management.
