If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes. —Mark 9:23 The unprecedented loss of global biodiversity due to human interference is increasingly impacting human well-being worldwide, posing a significant challenge for international environmental policymaking. The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) highlights the urgent need to preserve biodiversity. This study examines two key issues central to public discourse on conservation objectives and sustainable biodiversity use, both addressed by specific policy instruments. The first issue focuses on regulating cross-border trade in genetic information and resources, exploring whether commercial use of genetic data can incentivize preservation. The second issue concerns the conservation of biodiversity through the protection of ecologically valuable ecosystems from human exploitation, raising questions about how to effectively organize the protection of these natural areas and restrict harmful human activities on an international scale. I extend my gratitude to Professor Horst Siebert for his invaluable advice and support, as well as to Professor Till Requate for his insightful ideas and encouragement.
