Towards sustainable Chinese tourism

The rapidly growing Chinese tourism sector is gaining global attention and plays a crucial role in the country's economic growth. However, its sustainable development faces significant challenges, including a government-dominated development model, inadequate tourism planning, a weak legal framework, poor enforcement, insufficient collaboration and information sharing, and a lack of qualified human resources and effective education. This book addresses sustainable tourism development in China through three key areas: enhancing the C&E sector, promoting sustainable corporate management in tourism enterprises, and advancing eco-tourism based on the new cask principle. The first section reviews the current state of tourism in mainland China and the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau. The second section examines sustainable corporate management from three perspectives: CLQ and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation; CSR, business ethics, and corporate governance; and a web-service based knowledge management system. The author introduces the concept of Corporate Longevity Quotient (CLQ) to help estimate the lifespan of tourism enterprises. The final section focuses on eco-tourism and its sustainable development, applying the "short-board" principle, and concludes with suggestions for promoting sustainable eco-tourism practices.
