In today's information age, the real and virtual worlds are closely interconnected, with innovations relying heavily on virtual information. However, an information gap persists, particularly regarding physical objects. Enhanced and comprehensive object information can yield significant benefits for all stakeholders throughout the object lifecycle, leading to improved business processes and new models. This work explores federated object lifecycle management through an application scenario and system architecture. Recognizing security as a critical concern in information federation, it presents a security architecture and a methodology for developing cross-organizational access-control policies. A key source of object lifecycle information is the Internet of Things (IoT), which connects various objects within a network. This study expands existing IoT services by introducing new services that incorporate event-oriented business logic into the object lifecycle and offers a notation for modeling this logic. The developed and existing IoT services are assessed against a self-created requirements framework, providing valuable guidelines for IoT adopters and researchers regarding design choices and future research directions.
