Tora Hamilton, an outsider on the Shetland Islands, discovers a body while digging on her property. Initially thought to be an ancient bog body, she realizes it is recent and the woman was murdered shortly after childbirth. As an obstetrician, Tora becomes determined to uncover the truth behind the death.
