African Americans found the Bible had the power of curse and cure. African Americans would continue to struggle, even in their own minds, with the ownership of the Bible that they shared with the master class. If they were going to take their own share of the Bible, African Americans would have to counter-interpret the passages adduced as evidence of the biblical curses that black folks purportedly bore.
