In recent decades, there has been a growing interest in medieval Arabic philosophy, highlighted by new editions of previously unpublished treatises, translations, and monographs. The discussions surrounding the ‘clash of cultures’ between Islam and the West have further fueled this interest, as the significant influence of ancient Greek philosophy on medieval Arabic thought suggests a potential common origin. While Ibn Sina (Avicenna) and Ibn Rušd (Averroes) are well-known figures in the West, the contributions of Al-Farabi, the true founder of Arabic philosophy, have received less attention due to a scarcity of available translations. This is particularly evident in German, where many important texts remain untranslated. The planned reprint aims to address this gap by providing German translations of several key treatises that are essential for a comprehensive understanding of Arabic philosophy.
