Situated within a designated conservation area, the village of Kilbarchan has a long history dating back to before 1560, at which time it was under the jurisdiction of Paisley Abbey. It survived a period of intense industrialisation in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries when it became famous for the production of fine linen cloth and today is a pleasant dormitory suburb.
