Methods of Lexicographic Definition in the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary

The study analyzes 80 lexicographic definitions from the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary to determine if similar words are defined similarly. It categorizes the words based on part of speech, concreteness, and frequency, while exploring eight distinct definition methods. The findings reveal that both concreteness and part of speech significantly influence the definitions provided in the dictionary, offering insights into lexicographic practices and the relationship between word characteristics and their definitions.
