Pillars of Society

Set in a small Norwegian coastal town, the play follows Karsten Bernick, a powerful businessman with plans to revolutionize the town through a railway project. His ambitions are threatened when his wife's brother, Johan Tønnesen, returns from America, unveiling dark secrets from the past. Johan's return reveals that he took the blame for Bernick's infidelity and financial troubles. The play explores themes of guilt, societal expectations, and the consequences of deception, culminating in a controversial ending where Bernick escapes accountability for his actions.
