Exploiting Remotely Piloted Aircraft: Understanding the Impact of Strategy on the Approach to Autonomy

Focusing on the strategic integration of human systems in Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) technology, this thesis discusses how advancements can enhance autonomy. It critiques the current Air Force acquisition model and suggests a new approach based on the evolving dynamics within the RPA community. The work outlines two key technological thrusts: one aimed at improving individual RPA autonomy through self-monitoring and mission planning, and the other focused on enabling RPAs to collaborate effectively within a networked environment.
