The World Bank's Commitment to Hiv/AIDS in Africa: Our Agenda for Action, 2007-2011

HIV/AIDS significantly undermines life expectancy, productivity, and economic growth in Africa, jeopardizing the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. This report stems from a comprehensive consultative process involving over 1,000 stakeholders across 30 countries. It emphasizes the Bank's ongoing commitment to addressing the epidemic by transitioning from emergency measures to a sustained response, which includes an annual investment of at least $250 million and the establishment of an Africa HIV/AIDS Incentive Fund to bolster evidence-based strategies and technical support for affected nations.
