Emerson Hough, an influential American author, is renowned for his western stories and historical novels. Born in Newton, Iowa, he was a pioneer graduate of his high school and earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Iowa. Hough also studied law, gaining admission to the bar in 1882. His writing career began with the publication of his first article in "Forest and Stream."
