Más información sobre el libro

This book summarizes how better nutrition and health for school-aged children in the developing world will enhance school enrollment, attendance, and performance; increase economic productivity; and promote the health of future generations. It discusses many low-cost and highly efficient actions such as establishing school-based nutrition and health interventions targeted at mass-distribution of anti-worm medications; delivery of nutrient supplements, particularly iron and iodine supplements; and treatment of injuries and routine health problems like those related to hearing and vision. School-based health clinics and school feeding programs modeled in other countries, specifically those of the United States are cited and explored. Strategies aimed at curing infectious and parasitic diseases as well as alleviating hunger and malnutrition are also addressed. Appendix A proposes a situation analysis to guide the design and evaluation of school-based health and nutrition programs. Appendix B lists World Bank projects with services related to the nutrition and health of school-age children in the developing world, by country.
