    • Due to globalization the world sees a constant increase in transport flows. ln order to avoid increasing transport demand to become an even more challenging dimension when aiming at a more sustainable future, processes and strategies have to be developed and implemented to reduce the transport related negative impacts. This publication therefore aims at creating awareness on the challenges within the maritime logistics sector through increasing competition, which forces stakeholders towards more efficient and, at the same time more sustainable ways of operation. The included articles tackle these challenges from various perspectives, including CSR in the case of port operations, competitiveness of cargo handling seaport terminals, strategic analysis of commercial seaports, quantitative forecast methods on turnover of commercial seaports, competi- tiveness on the market of maritime passenger transport and algo- rithmisation of processes at containerised cargo handling terminals.

Daily activities are increasingly conducted far from homes, with people driving to out-of-town shopping centers and distant leisure spots, leading to neglected local facilities. This trend fosters car-dependent lifestyles, isolating those without cars and increasing their reliance on others. The repercussions on local economies, quality of life, health, energy use, and the environment are significant. This edition of Studies on Mobility and Transport Research explores ways to promote walking and cycling in urban areas. It showcases successful initiatives and campaigns from various countries and emphasizes the need for increased awareness of active travel among stakeholders and decision-makers. The goal is to elevate walking and cycling to the same status as other transport modes, necessitating appropriate funding. Furthermore, the collection underscores that planning and executing strategies for active travel is a wise move towards energy-efficient, healthy, socially inclusive, and environmentally sustainable urban development, enhancing overall quality of life. This approach is relevant for cities worldwide, whether in established EU member states, new member states, or regions beyond Europe.

Markenbildung iund Raumkonstruktion m Tourismus; 5. Nachhaltigkeit und unternehmerische Verantwortung im Tourismus.

    • Following up the chosen path of the first two editions of “Studies on Mobility and Transport Research” addressing a state of the art topic in a multidisciplinary, as well as multinational approach, the given issue wants to draw the reader’s attention to the rarely addressed relation of Transport and Health issues on an individual level. When discussing the requirements for a more sustainable transportation network in the future, a major concern is commonly the reduction of the motorized transport modes in order to reduce as for example noise or CO2-emmissions. While addressing this issue quite often the individual perspective or even the given individual benefits of green transportation modes are neglected. Hence the current publication tackles the issue of individual health benefits whilst adhering to green transportation modes. Furthermore it addresses the issue of creating suitable framework conditions in the field of urban and transport planning in order to support these modes and last but not least it gives an insight into up-to-date implementations in the given field.

    • The geographic location of the Eastern Mediterranean makes it a gateway to Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Due to the constantly increasing interaction within the Euro-Mediterranean Region, the need for an efficient transportation network is more pressing than ever before. On the other hand however, the geographic parameters of coastal regions in conjunction with a peripheral location throughout the last centuries create rather unfavourable conditions for transport planning. In consequence one has to consider a clear lack of infrastructure, such as the absence of an efficient railway network or the lack of highway infrastructure. Hence the shipment sector could play a major role in upgrading the accessibility of the region, as seaways have always served as a major way of transport in this region. In addition to possible improvements in the shipment sector, this publication also analyses potential obstacles for further development, such as mobility lifestyle or the mentality towards transport planning in general. Consequently a broad approach is taken in order to present a brief insight into the challenging situation of transport planning in the Eastern Mediterranean. The international perspective of this publication is furthermore ensured by contributors from 7 universities in 5 different European countries.
