The book critically examines the interplay between Slovenian literature and the global literary landscape, challenging the notion that texts hold universal significance regardless of their origins. It explores how (semi)peripheral national movements, reliant on imperial powers, sought international recognition by canonizing writers as national poets. This process allowed national literatures to assert their unique cultural identities within the emerging world literary canon, highlighting the influence of aesthetics and the dynamics of cultural nationalism in the nineteenth century.
