Reiseführer sind für viele Touristen das erste und oft auch einzige Informationsmedium bei der Erkundung eines fremden Landes. Sie werden so zum 'Wegweiser in die Fremde', der dem Leser gleichzeitig Sehenswürdigkeiten und Hotels einerseits sowie Land und Leute andererseits nahe bringt. Aber gerade dieser Anspruch, möglichst viele Aspekte eines Landes auf begrenztem Raum wiederzugeben, birgt die Gefahr, Informationen zu vernachlässigen und Wissen zu vereinfachen. Dies manifestiert sich sprachlich häufig in Form von Stereotypen. Aber was genau sind Stereotype und wie unterscheiden sie sich von beispielsweise Vorurteilen und Klischees? In dieser Arbeit werden zwölf 'Australien - Reiseführer' analysiert und daraufhin untersucht inwiefern sie (bild-)sprachlich stereotypisierte Vorstellungen der australischen Ureinwohner fördern. Ziel dieser Arbeit soll es sein einen möglichst objektiven Blick auf die Darstellung einer Minorität in der Öffentlichkeit zu werfen.
