Fundamental concepts in physiology are presented in a concise and clear manner, making complex ideas accessible to readers. The guide emphasizes key principles and processes, providing a solid foundation for understanding the subject. Ideal for students and anyone interested in the workings of the human body, it serves as a valuable resource for both learning and reference.
The aim of this book is to help the reader achieve the correct diagnosis in the emergency setting, which continues to remain a challenge, given the variety of potential clinical presentations. Diagnostic failure is the largest reason for delays in provision of appropriate treatment, which can be life-saving, and the largest source of clinical complaints and untoward incidents leading to poor clinical outcomes and to litigation. In this book, the readers will find diagnostic checklists, organised according to potential emergency presentations and classified under body systems, including atypical presentations, lists of differential diagnoses and guidance to pattern recognition. Apart from providing an aide-memoire for a range of presentations, it is hoped that the book will allow for better quality and informed referrals, especially between health care providers. This book is aimed as a rapid reference guide for all levels of medical staff working inemergency and acute care settings in the English-speaking world, but may also benefit nursing professionals and medical students.
The London Emergency Services Liaison Panel (LESLP) was formed in 1973 and consists of representatives from the Metropolitan Police Service, City of London Police, British Transport Police, the London Fire Brigade, the London Ambulance Service and local authorities. Also represented on LESLP, are the Port of London Authority, the Marine Coastguard, as well as the RAF along with other military and voluntary sector representatives. The group itself meets once every three months. This manual describes the agreed procedures and arrangements for the joint efforts when dealing with a major incident. The manual provides summaries of the responses and responsibilities of each of the emergency services at a major incident, as well as an outline of support role offered by local authorities. It has been specifically prepared for information and guidance of the emergency services and local authorities, with the focus on procedures that relate to activities at, and ancillary to, the scene of a major incident. Also included, are references to roles and responsibilities of some non-emergency service organizations.
