The study highlights the significant prevalence of Hepatitis B among workers in Ghana, revealing a 21% infection rate, which exceeds the national average of 10-15%. Data was collected through questionnaires addressing personal and health histories, and testing was conducted using HBsAg test strips. Findings indicated higher risk among single individuals and those using condoms. The research underscores the urgent need for preventive measures, including vaccination for negative workers and treatment for those who are positive, to address this public health concern.

The study reveals that the percentage reduction of metals improved during the second harvest, with the highest reductions of arsenic recorded at 27.84% and 41.32% in treatment T5 for the first and second harvests, respectively. This enhancement is attributed to the use of palm kernel cake (PKC) mixed with tailings during treatment preparation, despite not contributing to increased biomass.
Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Nature Protection, Landscape Conservation, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, language: English, abstract: This study investigated the use of Leucaena leucocephala as a potential plant species for phytoremediation of heavy metal contaminated soils. Tailings from the Sansu Tailings Dam was amended with top soil from Mampanhwe and three supplements to produce 10 treatments regimes. Treatment soils of 5 kg were put in poly-pots. Each of the 10 treatments was replicated 6 times and harvesting was done twice at 45 and 75 days after transplanting. A total of 120 poly-pots were prepared. The concentrations of six heavy metals (As, Fe, Pb, Zn, Cd and Cu) were determined, in samples of shoots and roots from each harvest, using an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer. The levels of heavy metals were highest in the roots than in the shoot. The fertilizer (NPK) and the organic manure (PKC) did not have any effect on the biomass. In general the levels of heavy metal accumulation increased with the addition of the supplements (Chelator, PKC and NPK) and performed much better than the tailings/soil mixtures. The results show that the plant is a phytoextractor and when aided with the addition of supplements, could be more effective in accumulation of heavy metals as a hyperaccumulator on long term cultivation.
In this historical novel, Yaw M. Boateng tells the harrowing story of the Atlantic slave trade and the devastating effects it had on the Ashanti Empire. 'This, then, is the story of Seku and Jakpa. But it is also the story of Malaam Fuseini, and of Africa in one of the most trying periods on human record.' It is the early nineteenth century, slavers have incited chaos, violence, and an insatiable greed across the Gold Coast. Clan is pitted against clan and those who have gained riches from the slave trade are fearing their own downfall. As advisor to the Ashanti King, Malaam Fuseini has only one plan: to unite the warring factions. Together, they can overcome the constant infighting and stand allied against the invaders. Otherwise, they will be forced to watch as the slavers burn Ashanti's cities to the ground... Among the Ashanti leaders is Seku, a military hero. His brother, Jakpa, is a former slave. Both are strangers to this land and consumed in a bitter feud against one another. Yet as the threat to the kingdom grows, the two must reconcile if they hope to save their allies - and themselves - from destruction. 'Boateng is a superb storyteller, with a keen sense of place and history, a lively imagination for dramatic action.' Es'kia Mphahlele 'The Return possesses great compassion, and more importantly, a vital sense of history.' John A. Williams 'Tense and engrossing.' Kirkus Reviews
