Focusing on communication strategies, this exploratory case study investigates interactions between adult EFL learners and their teacher in the virtual 3D environment of Second Life. The analysis highlights how participants adapted face-to-face communication techniques to navigate the challenges of a virtual setting, addressing ambiguities due to the lack of paralinguistic cues. Additionally, discourse analysis sheds light on power dynamics, politeness, and risk-taking, revealing insights into sociocultural learning and language development aligned with Second Language Acquisition theory.
