Joseph Freiherr von Auffenberg (1798 - 1857) war ein deutscher Dramatiker und Dichter, der für seine dramatischen Dichtungen oft Stoffe aus entlegenen Zeiten und Ländern aufgriff. Er orientierte sich dabei stark an Schiller, was die Wahl der Stoffe, die Verwendung theatralisch wirkungsvoller Motive sowie die Zeichnung der Charaktere und die Aufbautechnik betrifft. Historische Quellentreue und freie Phantasie gehen dabei oft Hand in Hand. Das vorliegende Werk ist ein Nachdruck der Originalausgabe aus dem Jahr 1819.
