The book explores the motivational orientation of higher education students through three interrelated studies involving undergraduates, community college students, and postgraduate learners in Hong Kong. Utilizing semi-structured interviews and an exploratory grounded theory approach, it develops a motivational orientation framework with six facets that shift during students' academic journeys. The findings highlight eight supportive conditions for a motivating teaching and learning environment, illustrated with student quotes. It also examines the impact of Hong Kong's expanding higher education sector and cultural considerations regarding Asian students' performance.
