Edward Nares, der Autor dieses wundervollen Buches, war ein englischer Historiker, Theologe und Schriftsteller. Nares lebte von 1762 bis 1841. Das vorliegende Werk ist die deutsche Übersetzung seines Titels "Thinks I to myself" aus dem Jahr 1811. Geschrieben mit dem typischen englischen Charakter, der mehr durch Feinheit und Laune den Verstand und die Fantasie erregt, als durch eine Reihe wechselnder Bilder. Die deutsche Übersetzung ist sehr gut gelungen und gibt den Charakter des britischen Humors hervorragend wieder.
