Amandine-Aurore-Lucile Dudevant (1804-76) wrote under the pen name of George Sand. Known for being unconventional & a champion for women, Sand wrote not only novels, but for the theater & autobiographical accounts of her life. The story of her life is contained in her letters, novels & prefaces. She was the frankest, sincerest & least egotistical of women, but couldn't write a line without revealing herself. The selection & grouping of these revelations & the attempt to place them on a clear & vivid background is the aim of this biographer.
