It was 1896. The year Henry Ford ran his first motor car in Detroit and the year that the Wolf and Dessauer Department store opened its doors to the people of Fort Wayne. The department store had modest roots, beginning as a two story, twelve thousand square foot building located at 70-72 Calhoun Street in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It was staffed with thirteen sales people and was the vision of Mr. Sam Wolf and Myron E. Dessauer. W&D grew to become the most prominent shopping destination in Fort Wayne. The story ceased operation in 1969, but it's still beloved in the city.
