      Gustav Heinrich Gans Edler Herr zu Putlitz (1821 - 1890), Gutsbesitzer, Schriftsteller, Theaterintendant, und Mitglied des Preußischen Herrenhauses, schuf sich "seinen Dichternamen ... jedoch nicht mit seinen zahlreichen Lustspielen und seinen Dramen, sondern mit dem kleinen Werke 'Was sich der Wald erzählt', das 1850 erschien und einen glänzenden Erfolg hatte. Es ist ein anmutiges, sinniges Märchen, in welchem Putlitz - um eigene Worte des Dichters zu gebrauchen - 'das holde Gedicht der Schöpfung' nachdichtend, mit glänzender Phantasie von dem großen Märchen der Natur erzählt." (Fritz Gundlach in der Reclam-Ausgabe von 1922) Das vorliegende Werk ist der Nachdruck einer Auflage aus dem Jahr 1896.
