Emanuel Swedenborg

    January 29, 1688 – March 29, 1772

This Spanish edition of the English-language Afterlife takes the essence of Emanuel Swedenborg’s classic Heaven and Hell and presents it chronologically, starting with the process of awakening after death and then taking the reader on a journey through both heaven and hell. This shorter format provides an eye-opening introduction to Swedenborg’s philosophy.

    • Man knows that there is such a thing as love, but does not know what love is. He knows that there is such a thing as love from common conversation " as when it is said that such a person loves' me, a king loves his subjects and the subjects love the king, a husband loves his wife, and a mother her children, and conversely; also such and such a person loves his country, his fellow citizens, his neighbor; and likewise of things abstracted from person, that a person loves this or that.

In this volume, Swedish visionary Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) discusses marriage from a spiritual perspective -- the ways in which men and women relate to each other both in this world and in the afterlife, and how marriages in heaven can either grow into a state of bliss and unity or wither away as partner discover their incompatibilities and seek their true soulmates. Swedenborg includes his perspective on sexual relationships in this world, both in and out of wedlock, and how the choices that we make affect our spiritual development. Interwoven with the text are numerous examples of his experiences in heaven. This edition is a reprint of a 1915 translation by Samuel M. Warren, revised by Louis H. Tafel.

In his most popular and influential work, Swedenborg describes his journeys through the afterlife--the soul's experience of dying and then being resurrected in heaven, how each of us finds a community there in which to live, and how we can ultimately become angels. "Heaven and Hell "is a powerful affirmation that we are all born for heaven, regardless of background or religion, and that the choices we make in this world shape our destiny in the next.
