    • Percival Christopher Wren nació en 1885 en Devonshire, Inglaterra. Tras estudiar en Oxford, se unió a la Legión Extranjera francesa en busca de aventuras. Al regresar a Inglaterra, se casó y se estableció en una casa de campo, llevando una vida de caballero rural. En 1924, publicó la obra que lo catapultó a la fama: Beau Geste, un clásico de las novelas de aventuras que ha sido traducido a numerosos idiomas y adaptado al cine en varias ocasiones, siendo la más conocida la versión de 1939 dirigida por William Wellman y protagonizada por Gary Cooper. A esta novela le siguieron otras, como Wages of Virtue (1916), Beau Sabreur (1926) y Beau Ideal (1928), cuyas historias transcurren en India, África e Inglaterra. Beau Geste comienza con un oficial de la Legión que relata un extraño suceso en el que un fuerte en Zinderneuf, Nigeria, solicita urgentemente refuerzos tras ser acosado por guerrillas nativas. Al llegar, las tropas encuentran a los legionarios en las almenas, inmóviles y muertos. La segunda parte narra, en flashback, cómo la desaparición del zafiro Agua Azul de la señora Patricia Brandon lleva a sus tres sobrinos, Michael, Digby y John Geste, a enlistarse en la Legión, donde la locura del desierto afecta a todo el destacamento.
