His tragic death in 1937 remains shrouded in mystery, with circumstances suggesting a struggle with mental health and societal misunderstanding. Initially pursuing a teaching career, he faced backlash for his outspoken views, leading him to study abroad in Vienna and Paris, where he immersed himself in contemporary German and French poetry, notably influenced by Villon. The illustrations are crafted by Szalma Edit, a talented graphic artist and typographer, who studied at the Hungarian University of Applied Arts and has been active in various artistic associations. Her work enhances the book's appeal, making it a delightful addition to children's literature.

Podnetom pre uverejnenie prvých prekladov bání Attilu Józsefa na stránkach slovenských periodík sa stala až správa o jeho tragickej smrti. Maďarský básnik, premožený biedou a duševnou chorobou, sotva tridsaťročný sa 3. decembra 1937 vrhol pod kolesá nákladného vlaku. Mal vtedy za sebou už sedem básnických zbierok a jeho tvorbe sa po rokoch zaznávania začalo dostávať primeraného uznania. (...) Začiatkom tridsiatych rokov začínali poznávať a uznávať jeho dielo aj tí slovenskí spisovatelia, ktorí sa dostávali do kontaktu s maďarskými autormi počas svojich návštiev v Maďarsku. (...) Prekladateľská prax E. B. Lukáča, obsahové a formálne modifikácie v jeho prebásneniach môžu vyvolávať určité námietky a výhrady. Nemožno mu však odoprieť prvenstvo v propagácii diela Attilu Józsefa v Československu. Začiatkom štyridsiatych rokov začal prekladať z lyriky Attilu Józsefa aj Valentín Beniak. V roku 1940 uverejnil v Eláne krátko za sebou Veľkomestá (A nagy városokat), Siedmy (A hetedik) a S čistým srdcom (Tiszta szívvel). (...) Poéziu Attilu Józsefa sa pred slovenským čitateľom zaskvela v plnosti svojho ideového bohatstva, tematickej mnohostrannosti a umeleckej pôsobivosti až začiatkom päťdesiatych rokov minulého storočia. Zaslúžil sa o to rozsiahly výber, ktorý v preklade Jána Smreka vyšiel roku 1952 pod názvom Nie ja volám...
