Yayoi Kusama, geboren 1929 in einem konservativen Japan, kämpfte gegen patriarchale Strukturen, um ihren künstlerischen Weg zu finden. Nach ihrem Umzug nach New York, wo sie von ihren Eltern verstoßen wurde, erlebte sie jahrelang Misserfolg, Hunger und psychische Leiden.
