Vynálezy můžou být pro lidstvo požehnáním. A pro člověka katastrofou. V roce 2013 všechna světová média vydala zprávu o závěrech odborného článku — téměř polovinu současných pracovních pozic prý může nahradit umělá inteligence. Z automatizace se od té doby stalo jedno z hlavních společenských i politických témat. Robotizaci se dál věnuje i jeden z autorů původního článku, ekonom Carl Benedikt Frey. Namísto nejisté budoucnosti však Frey studuje minulost. Podle něj se před lidstvem totiž odvíjí až příliš známý scénář: není to poprvé, co technologie zřejmě od základu promění lidskou společnost. Je sice pravděpodobné, že v dlouhodobém horizontu a dostatečném odstupu bude lidstvo z automatizace profitovat, stejně jako tomu bylo v případě technologií průmyslové revoluce.
