There is a need for strategies that emphasize detecting, controlling, managing, and responding to risk. Approaches for managing safety in standardized environments differ significantly from those required in dynamic clinical settings. Supported by the Health Foundation, an independent charity dedicated to improving health and healthcare in the UK, this work aims to foster a healthier population through high-quality, accessible healthcare. The Foundation conducts policy analysis, funds innovative practices, and emphasizes the connection between frontline knowledge and research to inform effective policymaking.

Réussir suppose d'abord et avant tout de modifier en profondeur les habitudes et les règles du jeu à trois niveaux : en premier lieu, chercher à améliorer de façon continue les processus clés qui constituent le cœur de métier plutôt que maîtriser seulement la qualité des produits, en s'appuyant largement sur les hommes et leurs compétences ; en second lieu, modifier les rôles et les attributions de l'encadrement, qui de gestionnaire devient coach du changement ; enfin, confier à la gestion des ressources humaines une mission : anticiper et faire vivre les changements liés à l'orientation client plutôt que de gérer, à posteriori, comme c'est trop souvent le cas, les conséquences sociales de cette évolution.
