Isa Genzken is arguably one of the most important and influential female artists of the past 30 years. Genzken's work - which spans sculptures, paintings, photographs, collages, drawings, artist's books, films, installations and public works - has been part of the artistic discourse since she began exhibiting in the mid-1970s, and a new generation of artists has been inspired by her radical inventiveness over the last decade - a period in which she has redefined assemblages. Published to accompany Genzken's first comprehensive retrospective in the USA, this book is the most complete monograph on the artist available in English. It presents Genzken's career in essays exploring the unfolding of her practice from 1973 until today and an illustrated chronological overview of her most important bodies of work and key exhibitions. 0Exhibition: Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA (23.11.2013-10.03.2014) ; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, USA (12.04.-03.08.2014) ; Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, USA

Styled as a magazine, this publication presents a new body of work--architectural proposals for Ground Zero, the twenty-first century's most historically significant site--by the important German artist Isa Genzken. The proposals take the form of architecturally induced sculptures produced in consultation with a team of specialist engineers so that each model can be realized to its true architectural scale. Running contrary to official designs, Genzken envisions buildings with social purpose--a church, hospital, car park, disco, memorial and shopping center. Her proposals draw upon her long-standing love affair with America's breathtaking cityscapes and all-pervasive pop culture. With their glitzy, seductive surfaces, slim rectangular forms and frenetic energy, they betray a fascination with the skyscraper and with New York City in particular: "To me New York has a direct link with sculpture."

Artist Isa Genzken will represent Germany at the 52nd Venice Biennale, showcasing a diverse body of work developed over more than thirty years. Her creations encompass sculptures, installations, photos, collages, and films, all of which evolve and present new perspectives. The work for Venice will be site- and context-specific. Curator Nicolaus Schafhausen highlights Genzken's uncompromising nature, stating that she captures the essence of contemporary times like few others. Her art introduces viewers to intricate correlations, addressing societal issues that resonate deeply. Genzken's perspective on life and existence mirrors the complexity of her art, challenging the simplistic narratives often sought in society. This complexity is a key reason for her significance and influence among international artists of subsequent generations. The official publication for Germany's contribution at the Biennale features texts by Juliane Rebentisch, Vanessa Joan Müller, Liam Gillick, and Willem de Rooij, alongside a conversation between Genzken and Schafhausen. Each contributor reflects on Genzken's impact and the relevance of her work in today's cultural landscape.
