    Fritz Reuter Leiber Jr. fue una de las voces más interesantes entre los jóvenes escritores que orbitaron alrededor de H.P. Lovecraft, y parte de su mejor ficción temprana se inclina más hacia el horror que hacia la ciencia ficción o la fantasía. Encontró su voz madura pronto en la primera de sus aventuras de espada y brujería, protagonizadas por el grande y sensible bárbaro Fafhrd y el pequeño y astuto Gray Mouser, a las que regresó en varios puntos de su carrera, utilizándolas a veces para la farsa y otras para piezas de ambiente sombrío.
